Watched DFF ep 5, and honestly, watching all the bullying stuff was harder than all the horror that's happened so far combined

Random thoughts about Dead Friend Forever ep 5:

I'm going to try to stay calm, but it's going to be hard, because it wasn't an easy episode to watch. It's finally the flashback episode I was waiting for.

▪️ First of all, the all group of friends is shitty (it also includes Jin, I'm sorry). They are despicable. I understand now why they have to die because frankly they deserve to have some consequences in response of their actions.

▪️ We get to see the group during high school and how they want to participate in a short movie festival but none of them know how to write a script in two weeks. Instead of trying by themselves and learning how to create a script, they prefer to stole the idea of their classmate and also persuade him to write it for them. Non is that poor soul who has to be abused by all those idiots. Not content with taking advantages of him, they spent too many times laughing at him and make unnecessary demands without caring for him or his time.

▪️ Por and Top were constantly calling him "Greasy" or "Beloved Greasy" (No Por it's not a cute pet name, you're just a bully). They never shied from belittle him. They couldn't even pretend to be nice to him for the sake of their stupid stort movie. Poor Non just endured it with such self-denial. I wish someone shook him up to make him answered them back. Por is also a spoiled rotten child. His family should have taught him what is frustration. F*** your camera. Why did you even need it for a short movie?! You're a student, you're not the next Kubrick.

▪️ Fluke was so passive. He never did or said something in front of Non, but he never really defend him too. He thinks like the rest of the group and have no empathy for Non. We already knew he was selfish from the previous episodes so I wasn't surprised by his attitude. I can't stand him.

▪️ Let's not forget, Tee who is worse than I even think he could be. Yeah, he has a motive to act this way. His evil uncle is using him by threatening him. You would think he would empathize more with others who don't have choice but no... it would be too easy. It's better to be a liar and using every opportunities to get what he wants at the cost of others. If we believe the trailer, he pushed Non in a shady business for his uncle so Non would be able to pay back Por for something he hasn't really done. It was Tee and Top. I want Tee to be the next victim. Why is White with this louse? Tee doesn't deserve him.

▪️ Now, I want to say Jin isn't without any fault. I know he was nice and friendly to Non. He also defended him and tried to make his friends reflect on their bad actions, but the problem is, he is a friend of them. How can you be friend with this kind of people who don't share the same views and values as you?! It's not enough to be nice to Non. He saw the constant bullying and yet he still consider them his friends, even in the present. I don't understand him.

▪️ Non is on medication. I couldn't exactly see what kind but it seems to be for anxiety. I may be wrong but I know what's going to happen to him will definitely have an impact.

▪️ In addition, Non has a brother... sister... called New and we never heard about them before. Could they be the killer and are they trying to get revenge for Non?

▪️ Keng, the teacher from tutoring school is sketchy. I felt uncomfortable when he was looking at Non, but maybe I'm getting suspicious about everyone for no reasons.

Next week should give us the rest of the flashback. I'm already getting work up because I know this group of friends will continue to hurt Non. I wanna know what is going to happen to them in the present as a consequence.

I mean this with kindness and hope tumblr has the reading nuance necessary to apply the situation appropriately.

Venting has its place and venting is important. We need it socially and emotionally. However, there's a point in time where, if you never seek out solutions, if you know a feasible solution exists and is within your means, or there are clearly people who could help you to its end, but you consistently vent about it and do nothing for a long period of time, your words become foolish. You corrode yourself and impose upon yourself helplessness. The largest issue then isn't that the problem exists. It's that you perpetuate it by doing nothing.

Please act on your problem. Venting may short-term alleviate suffering, but it won't end the issue. And if you are using words as the only means of handling it, the venting eventually turns counterproductive. Overreliance turns into damage. I've seen people let it keep them in the situation longer and longer until they rust away. Please act. I know people get into various hangups, but it is your way out, you destroy yourself if you don't, and you have to have the maturity to handle that.

heard it was friday the 13th! here’s anti-kira :) the anti fairywinkle-anti-cosma family’s head butler. the opposite of his fairy counterpart, anti-kira is quiet, obedient, and doesn’t want to question any sort of authority over him by his lord — no matter how absurd they may be (well, anti-fairy world is a lawless land, so it's not like there's anything revolutionary he needs to be fighting for...)

like kira was to peri when he was a kid, anti-kira was some sort of babysitter for irep, though he’s more like an annoying older advisor instead of a quirky mentor like kira. like peri to kira, irep doesn’t like him. the reason's the opposite of peri’s — he’s a worrywart that fusses over irep’s wellbeing and disaster scenarios to the point it gets aggravating. coupled with his obedient nature, if not standing besides anti-cosmo, anti-kira is constantly seen running around the castle doing tasks, usually for his lord's evil, world domination plans.

Hello there! I discovered your blog not too long ago and just want to say I am enamored with your character designs and world building! Call me basic, but I'm quite fond of Theo; which begs the question: since Theo's mom is an ermine and his dad is a rat, is he technically a hybrid? Or is he genetically speaking a "pure" rat? If not, are there any physical traits that might separate from a typical rat? Pardon the numerous questions; love your work!

Interesting question! Putting Theo and his his father side-by-side can help elucidate this. Leonard is what you'd call a "normal" rat, but Theo isn't a normal anything.

Comparing the two, Theo has some ermine-like traits: his ears are slightly fuzzy instead of bald, and he has sharp, carnivorous teeth in addition to his more ratlike incisors. Of course, he a variety of other odd attributes, which make it harder to discern if these anomalous features are due to hybridization precisely or myriad other genetic quirks.

Theo has many peculiarities that aren't hybrid traits, but a mix of congenital health conditions (his supernumerary teeth and dwarfism, for example) and what I'd call "basal traits," sort of animalistic throwback features that people usually lack (his more backwards-shifted foramen magnum, which gives him a slightly hunched posture when upright, or his lack of hair). He's also just kind of ugly. These things separate him not just from your "typical" rat-people, but most people in general.

To circle back and answer your question: Theo wasn't identified as a hybrid when he was born, even though you could make the argument that he qualifies. Though hybrids don't face the same degree of stigma in the modern era as they did in the time of the Old Kingdoms, they do still face some scrutiny. Leonard and Jo could get away with identifying Theo as "just" a rat since his other more blatant issues obfuscate any hybridization, which frees him of at least one potentially embarrassing label when he already has plenty stacked on him.

That said, even if he goes along with the non-hybrid label, Theo secretly prefers thinking of himself as having hybridized ermine traits. Probably more of them than he actually has. It's a mommy issue/daddy issue thing.

Dead friend forever ep 6 random thoughts:

▪️ This series is just making me furious every time I see the face of this group of fake friends and I just feel so bad for Non. He is so hard-working, trying to get back on his feet and he is always deceived, abused and abandoned by those next to him. It's not just the group of friends, it is also his parents and everyone. Jin is the only one who seems kind to him, without asking anything in exchange (yes, I don't the trust the teacher) but at the same time, he is so oblivious of what is going on. He is attracted to Non and never really show him. He feels useless because despite his attraction to Non and defending him, he still stays with his toxic friends. How can he not see how harmful they are?

▪️ I don't know where to start… Tee and Por were the most infuriating characters in this episode. I can't believe it, but Top and Fluke (who are also super annoying) seemed nicer than them, this time. Tee dragged Non in his uncle's laundering money scam and when things ended badly he blamed Non and made him admit he was the one who wanted to do it from the very beginning. Non would never have done this if it wasn't for Whiny Por (that's my nickname for him) who couldn't protect his camera from his stupid friends and believed Non was responsible for the damage on it (I don't forget it was Tee and Top and I loathe them even more).

▪️ Non is in a downward spiral he can't escape and it's getting harder and harder to watch. It's taking a toll on his mental health too and he has no one to really talk to. He tried to have this conversation with the teacher, but in the end, he only gave him a half truth. It fells like there are no way out for him. I also think, his teacher will take advantage of him too. He is shady. The way, he is a touchy-feely type of guy… Yuck! He doesn't act like a teacher to Non and I believe he is bad news too.

▪️ The most shocking event in the episode happened at the end. I wasn't expecting that and I truly feel it was a good twist. Phi knows Non and we never got that information before. In the previous episodes, in the present, he always acted like he didn't know who was Non, just like White and Tan. Who did we see, at the end of this episode… Phi! He knows Non and they are not just friend… They are also FWB and if we believe the trailer for the next episode, he wanted to really date Non and didn't trust his so-called friends. How Phi ended up with Jin? Is it his way of being involved in this group? How his feeling have changed and he went from wanting to be with Non to being with Jin? I have so many questions!!! This was my favorite part of the episode.

I've watched the previous episode expecting nothing from it but now I'm truly hooked! I want to have the next episode now. I need answers.

Started a new book series, and has been a journey...an Odyssey, if you will.

okay, but, like, THAT'S how you do a villain story. in the FIRST scene, you watch him shoot a man in cold blood. the show tells you right away "this man is not a good man".

but then it gets you to sympathize - look at how much the world has stepped on him. look at how terrible the whole of gotham is. and even when he kills more people, does more terrible things, you still root for him. because it's fun to watch someone be terrible to terrible people. you root for sofia too, because if anyone deserves revenge its her, but you're rooting for both of them somehow.

and then the show tells you "when he was a boy he killed his brothers". but even still, you want to see what he'll do. the show is called the penguin, you want to see the penguin rise. when he lets his mother's finger almost get cut off, you pity him. he's a sad, broken thing. how could he be anything but bad? but he loves, so there must be something else there.

but then. but THEN

the show always told you: "this is the devil". but you thought, maybe the devil can make hell a little more bearable for some people. the devil is so often nuanced, sympathetic, complex. maybe he's like that.

you're wrong. there's nothing good within him and YOU rooted for him to succeed. you wanted to watch the destruction. and now you have to live with the consequences of thinking, even for a second, that he could be redeemed.
